8 - What is Genre


Film genre,  generally means a specific style or subject matter. While a movie may have elements of a number of different genres, it is often classified under a single genre for reference purposes. film genres include drama, romantic comedy, action/adventure, musical and experimental. A film's inclusion in a recognized genre gives potential viewers some general hints about its subject matter and suitability



High School Drama

  • Became very popular in the 70's, 80's and 90's, with a lot of variations within the sub-genre.
  • The socialisation of teens and young adults by institutions such as school, college and at home.
  • Often celebrate the idea of being young as fun
  • Mainly girl centered but may focus on a male lead.
  • They tend to focus on changes, reinventions, make overs and/ or conflict with different social groups at school.
